Anna reaches semifinal in Spain
Anna Brazhnikova reaches the semifinal but had to withdraw due to injury.
This week Anna Brazhnikova played an $10,000 ITF Womens tournament in Lleida, Spain. This was part of the preparation for the European Championships that was going to be played in the same region the following week.
Before leaving for Spain Anna had some physiotherapy sessions and only did some lighter training with her coach due to a light muscle pain.
The first match was up against Georgina Garcia-Perez from Spain which Anna won 7-5 6-7(3) 6-3. In the second round Anna defeated German player Bianca Koch in straight sets (6-2 6-2).
The opponent in the quarterfinal was Spanish player Carla Roset-Franco who Anna defeated in 6-3 6-2.
In the semifinal Anna was put up against four year older Romanian player Diana Enache and won the first set easily 6-3. Annas game was more conservative in the second set when she started to feel som pain in the abdominal muscle, loosing 5-7. After consulting with the tournament doctor in the third set Anna decided to withdraw from the match. Final score was 6-3 5-7 2-4 Retired
