Anna selected for the Fed Cup
Anna Brazhnikova is selected to represent Sweden in the upcoming Fed Cup group stage that will be played in 1-6 February 2010 in Portugal.
The Swedish national team captain Maria Strandlund-Tomsvik has selected the team which will consist of Sofia Arvidsson, Johanna Larsson, Anna Brazhnikova and Ellen Allgurin.
- This is a good team considering how strong both Sofia and Johanna has played this fall. Anna is making her debut in the National team on a senior level and has a high best-performance level which can be enough against many players in the no.2 singles. Ellen played last year and learnt a lot and is ready, says Strandlund-Tomsvik.
Sweden is playing in the Euro/Africa Zone 1 together with 15 other teams. The draw will decide which nations will play eachother in this Round-Robin with four pools. Sweden with its 22:nd position in the world rankings is top seeded in one group but the competition is fierce on this level since almost all teams have one top-100 player in their team.
- We have played really well for two years in a row now and not been able to advance pass the group stage but it has been important to win the placement matches since it gives us a better starting position and seeding. We talked about this last year when we won our group, says the national team captain.
She also has a positive outlook on playing indoors on hard court in Portugal which suits the Swedish girls.
Anna Brazhnikova will practice in Sweden and play a couple of singles tournaments leading up to the Fed Cup.
