UK last week, Fed Cup up next!
Last week Anna Brazhnikova played her first ITF tournament of the year and today she will meet up with the other Swedish Fed Cup team mates and coaches.
The trip to Wrexham (UK) was the first ITF tournament that Anna has played since joining her new tennis club - Lidköpings Tennis Club - and the club coach Lars Granath was by her side.
Prior to this Aegon Pro Series tournament Anna Brazhnikova had done some changes to her tennis techniques and training in the gym. Therefore this tournament was a good test for Anna and time for improvements.
In the first round Anna faced wild card player Ruth Seaborne from the UK. Anna controlled the match from the start and won the match against the right-handed Seaborne in 6-3 6-4. In the second round Anna was up against fourth seeded Mona Barthel from Germany. The match stared off with Barthel serving very well, winning the first set 6-0, and Anna not getting up to her normal pace of play. The 19 year-old German player continued to produce fine serves in the second set, using her height and making it difficult for Anna to answer with good returns. Anna lost the match 0-6 2-6 and Mona Barthel went on to win the whole tournament.
During the trip Anna was able to work on her game with coach Granath and both are confident that the tennis techniques from this winter´s practice sessions are setting up some exciting improvements for the long run.

Fed Cup
Later today, Anna Brazhnikova will meet up with her other Swedish team mates and the coaches to prepare for the Fed Cup trip. Sweden are up against a tough group and it will be exciting to see what will happen. The team leaves for Portugal on Sunday and will have 10 days together with practice and competition.
The Swedish Fed Cup team which will play its Group I (Europe/Africa 2010) matches at the Complexo de Tenis do Jamor outside the city of Lisbon, Portugal. Nations include: Austria, Belarus, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Great Britain, Hungary, Israel, Latvia, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Switzerland and Sweden.
