Anna is selected the next Fed Cup play-off
Anna Brazhnikova is one of four players to represent Sweden in the upcoming World Group II play-off match against China P.R. in Helsingborg, Sweden.
Earlier this year Sweden qualified from the Europe/Africa Zone Group I in Portugal with the players Sofia Arvidsson, Johanna Larsson, Anna Brazhnikova and Ellen Allgurin. Sweden defeated Denmark, Latvia and Hungary in the round-robin stage, and then Austria in the promotion play-offs.
The Swedish national team captain, Maria Strandlund-Tomsvik, decided to keep the same constellation of players for the home match on 24-25 April 2010 at Idrottens Hus in Helsingborg.
- I was so pleased with the result in Portugal and how the team worked together off the court that week, so I find no reason to change my team, says Maria Strandlund-Tomsvik.
Anna Brazhnikova is currently in Egypt competing in two ITF tournaments.
The surface for this indoor event is hardcourt (Plexipave) and it will be interesting to see which Chinese players will stand on the other side of the net. If China P.R. will select their two highest ranked WTA players, Na Lie and Zheng Lie (#15 and #21), Sweden will face a difficult task. The only time Sweden played Fed Cup matches against China P.R. was in 1989 when Sweden won 2-1. It is also the first home match for Sweden since 2003.
